Most “free takeoff software” turns out to be a 14-day trial, a demo you have to book, or a viewer that won’t measure. This is none of those: the free plan is free permanently, and the measuring tools on it are the same ones on the paid plans.

Linear runs, areas, and counts — with waste percentages, and height or thickness on a linear run so one traced wall gives you its area and volume too.
Scale handled properly
AI scale detection reads scale bars and title blocks; manual calibration covers everything else. Each page of a set can carry its own scale.

Vector PDF exports that keep the drawing’s linework, and CSV quantity summaries for your spreadsheet. Free exports carry a small SolidTakeoff credit; paid plans export clean.

- Is it actually free, or a trial?
- The free plan is permanent. Separately, new accounts get a 14-day trial of the Team plan — when it ends you keep the free plan, and nothing you measured is deleted.
- Can I use it without creating an account?
- Yes. The editor opens and measures without signing up; your work is kept in your browser. Create a free account when you want projects saved to the cloud and available on other machines.
- What’s the catch on exports?
- Free exports carry a small “Generated with SolidTakeoff.com” credit in the corner. Paid plans (from $12.99/month) export clean.
- Does it run on a Mac?
- Yes — it runs in the browser, so macOS, Windows, Linux and ChromeOS are all fine. No Windows-only install, no virtual machine.
